Tips for trips to the surrounding of Dudince

Banská Štiavnica – historic mining town; a town reservation listed in the world cultural and natural heritage lift of the UNESCO since 1993 together with the natural and technical relics in the surrounding (Mining Museum in nature, well-known ponds and tunnels of Štiavnica, etc.). Besides year-round exhibitions in the Old and the New Castle, the town is known for its concerts organized in the local amphitheatre, typical Štiavnica events, such as the Salamander days, Summer Movie Festival. Night in the Old Castle and many other.

Baroque-classicistic chateau in St. Anton – in the past known as St. Antol, this chateau will fascinate you by its precious exhibits, for example a wedding gift by Mary Theresa to her daughter Mary Antoinette; personal things of the Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand Coburg, or a historical bedroom of Rudolf, the Prince Royal, the son of the famous and popular empress Sisi. Besides classic exposition, the chateau attracts visitors by its seasonal events, such as the Days of Hubert, or Night visit of the Chateau. Together with the exhibition of hunting, beautiful park and view of the hill Sitno emblazoned with legends, this chateau belongs to the jewels of Dudince surrounding.

Brhlovce – a small village in the district of the town Levice conceals unique relics – historical rock dwellings. We recommend you visiting the museum exposition that documents the life of the original inhabitants of the dwelling, and visiting the nearby town of Bohunice priding with a technical relic – watermill, or the town of Levice and its specialized exposition dedicated to pharmaceutics, and the exhibition of difficult times of anti-Turkish fights situated in the ruins of the Levice Castle. Besides this, Levice annually organizes a well-known Levice market, which no visitor should miss.

Hrušov – a small village awarded by a title “the village of the year 2003” annually organizes a three-day summer event called “Hontianska parade” accompanied by examples of traditional craft technologies, typical folk costumes and habits of the Hont region, visits of cellars, tasting of home-made specialties and performances of music bans and folk ensembles in the local amphitheatre. Hontianska parade is a great experience for foreign and native visitors.

Zvolen – a historic town dominated by the Zvolen Castle - a unique construction within the Slovak architecture built in the 14th century as a hunting lodge by the example of Italian town castellans; nowadays it is a national cultural monument and a seat of the Slovak National Gallery. Among other monuments there is the Church of St. Elizabeth, Evangelic Church of holy Trinity, or the “Old Zvolen” called Dead Castle nowadays. The visitors can visit an exhibition of the Forestry and Timber Museum, as well as interesting events that took place in the Castle, e.g. the “Castle games of Zvolen”.

Krupina – a birth place of Andrej Sládkovič, one of the most important Slovak poets, offers an exposition dedicated to this strong personality of the Slovak literature and sight-seeing of the historical town centre, as well as a breathtaking view of the town and its surrounding from Vartovka egregious from the times of anti-Turkish fights – the period that has significantly impact the lives of inhabitants of the town Krupina and its wide surrounding and that is reflected in the folk songs, poems, legends, etc. Besides other legends, it is passed on that the last witch was burn to death in Krupina... We recommend a trip to the ruins of a former cloister fortress called Bzovík to the visitors of Krupina.

Banská Bystrica – one of the most beautifully situated Slovak town attracts all its visitors by a gorgeous surrounding, as well as its historical buildings and relics in the town centre (Thurza House, Benicky´s House, Castle area, Mathias’s House, Town hall ...) or exhibitions dedicated to the Slovak National uprising. In the evening you can visit opera or some of the numerous café houses on the Square of the Slovak National Uprising.

Nitra – former centre of the Great Moravian Empire offers tourists one of the smallest basilicas in the world (“Basilica minor” of St. Emeram) as a part of the well-known area of the Nitra castle. The visitors enjoy the statue of Corgoň standing on the Pribina Square emblazoned with legends; they can visit museums and exhibitions and take part in various cultural events organized in Nitra throughout the whole year (Musica Sacra, Theatrical Nitra, Nitra cultural summer, Christmas market and other). However, there are also other interesting places in the territory of the Hont region, as well as in other regions of the Slovak Republic in the vicinity of Dudince.
