The history of the spa Trenčianske Teplice
The thermal springs must have been known by the hunters´nations of the Quades and Marcomanes at the start of our era and by the Roman legions later on. The first document confirming Trenčianske Teplice already as a spa dates to the start of the 13th century. The first complete document about this region the thermal springs and their effects was written by an important physician, balneologist and epidemiologist Thomas Jordanus from Klausenburg. The big development began by the ownership of baron Georg Sina who bought the spa from Stephan Illésházy in 1835 in a flourish state. His son Simon continued the development of the spa. His daughter Iphigenie let build the nicest sight of the spa HAMMAM in 1888 in a Moorish style by a Czech architekt Franz Schmoranz.

Iphigenie de Castries saw a plastic model of a luxurious Turkisch bath on the world exhibition in Paris. The model was designed by a Bohemian architect Frantisek Schmoranz. A Turkisch bath Hammam was already built before, according to this model, for Egyptian viceroy Ismail. Hammam means bath in Arabic. The cabins are decorated with nice white-blue tiles with initials of the lady possessor (IC). It was the most expensive bath in the spa in the 19th century. Nowadays it is used for resting after taking bath and for massages.
